Si Kabayan is a legendary fictional character of pasundan community who inhabit the western part of the Java island, Indonesia. Si Kabayan portrayed as a young slacker, but have a sincere heart and clever brain. Si Kabayan tales have several versions and a short story that is not contiguous. Some stories have been written in the book, and several others told orally from generation to generation. Here are some stories of Si Kabayan:
Si Kabayan Hunting Deers
(This tale is taken from book Gapura Bases 2nd volume by Drs. Hidayat Suryalaga, Spk.)
Early morning Si Kabayan and his father in law was awake, because that day, they and other villagers will hunt deers.
The villagers are very excited, wearing shorts, sarong looped on waist, long machete on his back. Some are carrying spears. The barking dog can not wait to catch the prey in the forest.
Seeing the villagers, Si Kabayan is not affected. He walked slowly with sarong slung over his shoulder. People with machetes, he even brought a small knife.
"Why carry a small knife, Kabayan?" Asked his neighbor.
"for skinning a deer" he replied.
Those villagers who will hunt, leaving the village together. In the forest, they soon entered the thicket. The sound of dogs barking from all directions, from the north, south and east. People were shouting to scare the deer. Most of the villagers were in the west, to catch the deer.
Si Kabayan secession himself. He stood under the guava tree while looking up, looking guava fruit to eat.
When Si Kabayan is looking up a guava tree, someone shouted, "Catch...!"
Si Kabayan looked toward the sound of screaming. The deer came running from shrubs, a stag. With high horns and forked.
Si Kabayan don't know the animal shape of a deer. He taught the deer are like the lamb. Hence, in the view of animals such as horses and horned, he rose to the guava tree branch. Could not come up to the top because his sarong stuck. He was clinging to the lowest branches, so his sarong hanging down.
Incidentally the deer ran to beneath Si Kabayan, Si Kabayan closed his eyes because fear and the horn were very sharp.
Si Kabayan very surprised because it seems there are something tugging his sarong from below. When she saw, the horn stuck in sarong. The deer was trying to free himself while jumping around. Hearing the sound of deer out of breath, the more tightly Si Kabayan hugged guava tree branches, the stronger the deer was trying to free himself, the horn getting tangled in the Si Kabayan's sarong. Si Kabayan more frightened, his face pale as no blood is flowing.
"Help.. Please Help... There was a deer..!" Si Kabayan screaming for help.
Soon the villagers were hunting come towards to Si Kabayan. Seeing deer bounding beneath the tree where Si Kabayan is, the villagers threw the spear to the deer. The deer was limp stopped moving. Then the people cut the deer with machetes, so the deer collapsed. Powerless. Si Kabayan then fell from a guava tree, so he collapsed beside a deer, he still felt shocked and frightened.
The villagers surround the deer and surprised.
"How do you catch this big deer, Kabayan?"
Si Kabayan then standing and smiling, "Ah that easy. When deer towards the guava tree, I catch it. When it came, I used this sarong to wrap around the horn. You can see the sarong is tear and damage. After the horns entangled, it more easily, just pull the horn. "
Everyone who heard the story of Si Kabayan shook his head in disbelief. But Si Kabayan even a faint smile, stroking his injured knee.

Si Kabayan Going To Health Clinic
Si Kabayan very often go to the doctor at the health clinic, without thinking, every little pain he always visit a doctor, which led the doctor to be annoyed, because of abdominal pain he went to the doctor, bitten by ants he went to the doctor, plagued by a spider he went to the doctor, skin cracked feet he wanted to be injected by a doctor. Si Kabayan Intervene The Arguments
(This tale was taken from the book Nani Resep Maca Volume 5. 1983)
In one village there were celebrating a wedding, after all invitations home, in the living room there are five people who fight. They are fighting over grilled chicken. The five people are the headman, headman's wife, two children of the headman and chairman of the village. Everybody wants to get a bigger piece of the chicken.
While they were arguing, Si Kabayan passing.
The headman said, "Incidentally Si Kabayan through. Kabayan come here please! Please help to cut this chicken into five equal parts. Fair, isn't it? !!! "
Si Kabayan replied, "Well, if you believe me." He took the roast chicken. Si Kabayan facing the headman, he said, "This chicken head for the headman. You must accepted as you are the Head of Village. Its for Mrs. headman "while giving the back of the chicken. "You must obey the headman, that's why I give the back of the chicken, because the back must follow the head."
The both legs of chicken given to the chairman of the village, because the chairman is busy going to everywhere as headman command. Both wings are given to both the children of the headman. "Be free to fly when you grow up". Si Kabayan said. There is left the chicken body.
